Day 5 of 30

About street portraits: How did it become a thing for me? How it became a thing is one of those weird paradoxical life thing. Mingling, socially, in a large crowd of people that I don’t know is murderously hard for me. But, individuals, for some reason, there’s no problem in talking with them. Many, many years ago, I met a Russian Naval Officer Candidate in Singapore, and asked them if it was ok to take a picture. From that moment forward, it has been a source of happiness, personal documentary, and (warning a few extra syllables, cause it’s hard to explain) reverential connection to take photos of strangers via conversation.
