Day Seven of 30
Can there be too many people doing this? I’m a big fan of not gate keeping and a bigger fan of not being the only person doing something. For some of the people in these photographers, they might just be on the fringe of society. In someways having more people to document the people living in the fringe so there is a history somewhere would be a good thing. But it is also a double edge sword. Some of the people in these street portraits have mentioned being photographed before, and some have gone further (with a bit of anger) that they often feel like they’re in a zoo and on exhibit. You say what ever you want and feel what ever you want about their life style, but to an extent, it is understandable to feel that way. I am happy there are others out there, especially since there are so many ways to catch street portraits and so much talent. But, it is an underlying fear that this could go temporarily viral, and suddenly there are hordes of people snapping photos with smartphones. There isn’t any sort of OG hierarchy to this which in affect means I got no right to say others can’t do it or shouldn’t do it.
This was taken January 12, 2025 (same day as day one of this series), probably on 4th near the Balboa Theater.
